Robin up for ‘Breakthrough Artist’ AMA nod
Beyoncé Knowles and Justin Timberlake are the frontrunners at this year’s American Music Awards.
The superstar singers have both been nominated for three prizes at the 35th prestigious music awards, announced Tuesday.
Timberlake is up for male artist in the Pop/Rock section, while his album ‘FutureSex/Lovesounds’ features in both the Pop/Rock and Soul/Rhythm and Blues categories.
Beyoncé could be crowned female artist in both the Pop/Rock and Soul/Rhythm and Blues sections, while her album ‘B’Day’ features on the Rhythm and Blues shortlist.
Linkin Park and Daughtry, the band fronted by former ‘American Idol’ contestant Chris Daughtry, also received three nominations.
Linkin Park’s ‘Minutes to Midnight’ will fight it out with Daughtry’s self-titled debut release for Pop/Rock Album.
Linkin Park could also collect the award for best Band, duo or group in the Pop/Rock genre.
Daughtry face stiff competition from Norah Jones and John Mayer in the Adult/Contemporary category.
The band will battle it out with the Plain White T’s and ‘Lost Without U’ star Robin Thicke to be named New artist in the Breakthrough section. Nominees were initially selected based on their record sales, then whittled down after 15,000 members of the US public were asked to pick their top three artists in each section.
Celine Dion, Fergie, Rihanna and Daughtry are all set to perform at the prestigious awards ceremony in the new L.A. Live venue in Los Angeles on November 18.
The event will hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel.
